On June 17, 1979, Imam Khomeini issued a historic decree establishing the revolutionary institution of “Jahad Sazandegi” (Construction Jihad) . With this order, he opened a new chapter in serving the most underprivileged areas of the country, calling on all segments of the nation, especially students, engineers, and specialists, to the field of development. The goal was to revitalize villages, advance agriculture and rural industries, and eliminate the poverty and deprivation left by the previous regime .
The anonymous Jihadists, who later became known as “Trenchless Builders,” played an irreplaceable role with sincerity and self-sacrifice both in the field of development and during the eight years of the Sacred Defense . Although the organization was later merged with the Ministry of Agriculture, its spirit and ideals continue to thrive in the country through the formation of the Basij Sazandegi Organization, which continues the path of deprivation alleviation and self-sufficiency .
