Iran has surged to become the world’s seventh-largest steel producer, according to the latest data from the World Steel Association. In October 2025, Iran produced 3.3 million tonnes of steel, marking a significant 12% increase compared to October 2024. This strong performance helped Iran reclaim the 7th position globally, a rank it held during the early months of the year before a brief dip in the middle of 2025.
Between January and October 2025, Iran’s steel production totaled approximately 25.4 million tonnes, reflecting a small decline of around 1% compared to the same period last year. Despite this slight decrease, the October production surge illustrates the resilience and growth potential of Iran’s steel industry.
Regionally, Iran maintains a dominant position, accounting for over 61% of steel production in West Asia, underscoring its role as the leading steel manufacturer in the region. Globally, China and India remain the top steel producers, followed by Russia, Iran, and Brazil. Iran’s strengthening steel output and export growth highlight its strategic investments and rising importance in both regional and international steel markets.
