July 16, 2026, marks the National Day of Welfare and Social Security in the official calendar of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This day is dedicated to honoring the efforts of two key social support institutions and serves as an opportunity to celebrate those who work to protect human dignity, support vulnerable groups, and promote social justice .
The State Welfare Organization was established in 1980 under a legal bill to fulfill the principles of Articles 3, 21, and 29 of the Iranian Constitution, aiming to help meet the needs of individuals and families without guardians and to create appropriate grounds for their self-sufficiency . This organization is a cultural, social, and relief institution that provides a wide range of services in three areas: cultural and preventive affairs, social affairs, and rehabilitation services .
The Social Security Organization, as a social insurance institution operating through the three-way participation of employers, insured individuals, and the government, primarily funds its operations through insurance premiums. Its main commitments include coverage for accidents and illnesses, retirement pensions, disability and survivor benefits, unemployment insurance, and medical assistance .
