In a significant leap forward for the nation’s industrial sector, a new graphite electrode production facility has officially commenced operations in Ardakan. The Ardakan plant is the result of a joint investment by three of Iran’s leading industrial entities: Chadormalu Mining & Industrial Company, Mobarakeh Steel Company, and IMIDRO (Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization). With an annual production capacity of 30,000 to 35,000 tons, the facility is designed to meet a substantial portion of the domestic demand for graphite electrodes, the essential component powering electric arc furnaces (EAFs) used in steelmaking.
Ending Reliance on Imports
Graphite electrodes are indispensable to the steel production process, and until now, Iran’s steel sector was heavily reliant on imports to secure this vital material.
