The fifth of Mehr is a blessed day that commemorates two great events in the history of Islamic Iran: the birth of Hazrat Abdul Azeem Hassani (peace be upon him) and the anniversary of breaking the siege of Abadan in 1981.
Hazrat Abdul Azeem Hassani, from the pure lineage of Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS) and one of the great scholars of Ahl al-Bayt in the third century AH, whose noble shrine is located in the city of Ray. This great personality, who migrated from Medina to Ray due to defending the authentic teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (AS) and opposing the oppression and tyranny of the Abbasid caliphs, was an example of resistance against oppression and despotism.
On this same blessed day, but in 1981, one of the greatest victories of the Sacred Defense was achieved. Operation Thaamen al-A’immah, which began at 1 AM on the 5th of Mehr 1360, ended after 42 hours of continuous fighting with the breaking of the siege of Abadan.
Abadan, which had been under a 330-degree siege by the Ba’athist enemy since the 8th of Aban 1359, remained in this situation for nearly a year. Imam Khomeini (RA) issued a command to the armed forces on the 14th of Aban 1359 that “the siege of Abadan must be broken”. This command of the Imam gained not only military but also religious significance and led to the firm determination of the fighters to liberate this city.
In this historical operation, 16 battalions from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, 13 battalions from the army, and one battalion from the gendarmerie fought against about 30 Iraqi battalions. This operation, which began with the code “Nasr min Allah wa fath qarib” (Victory from God and conquest is near), resulted in the liberation of two important roads from Abadan to Ahvaz and from Abadan to Mahshahr.
Breaking the siege of Abadan was Iran’s first decisive success in the imposed war, which had widespread repercussions inside and outside the country. This victory not only strengthened the morale of the armed forces and people but also paved the way for the liberation of Khorramshahr.
The coincidence of the birth of Hazrat Abdul Azeem Hassani (AS) with the anniversary of this great victory is a symbol of blessing and seeking benediction from God’s saints. Just as Hazrat Abdul Azeem stood against oppression and tyranny, the fighters of the Sacred Defense also stood against the invaders inspired by the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (AS).
On this sacred day, Bidestan Kala Steel, while commemorating the birth of Hazrat Abdul Azeem Hassani (peace be upon him) and the anniversary of breaking the siege of Abadan, renews its commitment to serving the Islamic homeland and advancing the goals of the Islamic Revolution.
