September 24, Commemoration of Mina Victims; A Memorial Ceremony for Sacred Lives Lost

On the second of Mehr, the Iranian nation and the Islamic world commemorate the memory of those lost in the Mina tragedy. This day recalls the bitter and sorrowful incident that befell pilgrims to the House of God in 2015.

On Thursday morning, the second of Mehr 1394 (corresponding to September 24, 2015 AD and the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah 1436 AH), coinciding with Eid al-Adha, a group of pilgrims lost their lives due to severe overcrowding during the Jamarat stoning ritual on Street 204 near its intersection with Street 223 in the Mina area of Mecca.

This incident, known as the deadliest event in Hajj history, claimed the lives of more than 2,431 pilgrims from 39 countries worldwide. The number of Iranian casualties in this tragedy was 464 people, making Iran the country with the highest death toll in this incident.

According to field reports, the main cause of this tragedy was the closure of secondary passages and severe crowd congestion in 47-degree temperature. Emergency forces arrived at the scene three hours late, and this delay led to an increase in casualties.

Following this heartbreaking incident, three days of public mourning were declared by the Supreme Leader in Iran. This event not only brought Iranian families into mourning but also emphasized the necessity of reviewing Hajj management.

The Mina martyrs sacrificed their lives for worship and divine proximity while intending to perform one of the most important pillars of Islam. These beloved souls, who came from various Islamic countries, achieved martyrdom while seeking to perform Hajj and attain divine satisfaction.

Today, as the anniversary of this incident approaches, remembering these precious martyrs provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of sacrifice and devotion to God. They demonstrated that the path to human happiness and perfection lies in sincere worship of Almighty God.

On this sacred day, Bidestan Kala Steel, while paying tribute to the sublime status of the Mina martyrs, renews its commitment to serving the Islamic homeland and advancing the goals of the Islamic Revolution.
